Two best friends. Ten summer trips. One last chance to fall in love.

From the New York Times bestselling author of Beach Read comes a sparkling new novel that will leave you with the warm, hazy afterglow usually reserved for the best vacations.

Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.

Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven’t spoken since.

Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.

Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?

People We Meet On Vacation is my second book read by Emily Henry. Last year I read Beach Read and I loved it.  People We Meet On Vacation is a slow-burn romance between two best friends Alex and Poppy.

“Sometimes I think that’s why we’re so drawn to each other. Because he’s used to being the steadfast big brother and I’m used to being the annoying little sister. It’s a dynamic we understand: I lovingly tease him; he makes the entire world feel safer for me.”

Poppy and Alex meet in their freshman year and college, they were very different, Alex was very serious and focused on his career, and Poppy was a free spirit who dreamed to see the world, they were they will not become friends.  After two awkward trips, they become friends despite their differences. After they become friends, they decided that every year they will take together a vacation for a week and they will visit different places.

The story is told in present and in past, in present we see them having problems in their relationship but in past, we see their vacations together and how their relationship developed through the years why they have problems in the present. I loved they remained friends and they become each other emotional support through the years. I loved that they helped each other and they had fun together.

“I’m happy just because you exist”

I loved the connection between Poppy and Alex and I loved the friendship between them. I loved that the fact that Ales exists in Poppy’s life, she is happy and she no longer feels alone. I loved how sweet and patient is Alex with Poppy. Even if they are different, they loved each other and accept their differences. Their relationship is everything for them.

I loved how their relationship developed through the book, from strangers to friends and to lovers. I loved the characters and their relationship and I recommend it to everyone People We Meet On Vacation.

“Wherever you are, that’s where I belong. I’ll never belong anywhere like I belong with you. No matter what I’m feeling, I want you next to me. You’re home to me.”
